because I forgot to get them last night

we'll leave James and Julia to enjoy the

concert because we're going to the

theater

Andrew Lee is the manager of the Old Vic

let's find out what the Old Vic is the

Old Vic is a theatre and it's the oldest

theater in London

it was built in 1818 it was called the

Old Vic because it was originally the

Royal Victoria Theatre after Queen

Victoria but popular it became known as

the Vic and then the old thing

the theater as I've mentioned was built

in 1818 and its exterior is a georgium

exterior the interior is largely

Victorian and in fact was a completely

rebuilt in 1878 like most theaters

people sit in in rows in straight rows

facing the stage and what we have here

is the theatre divided into three levels

the stalls the dress circle and the

upper circle and the best seats in the

house are of course the ones that are

closest to the stage not the very front

row but the ones right in the middle of

the stalls yes we have stools or dress

circle 30 pounds each how many was it

for just two things two tickets I can do

two in the stalls row K 14 and 15 that's

eight rows back yes that's fine thanks

yeah

230 pound tickets that's 60 pounds

you like to start 7:45 to see what kind

of plays can you see at London theatres

there are about 48 major theaters in

London with a broad mixture of

presentations those theatres between

them present anything from large-scale

musicals like lay miserably or Phantom

of the Opera or Miss Saigon to small

scale plays offer new works by new

writers

I think theatre styles change we are we

have been very influenced by television

for example in the kind of drama and we

present and the way we present it but in

recent years we've become more

influenced by spectacle and there's a

tremendous move now from things like

outdoor concerts for example and the

world of rock and pop music all of this

has influenced the way we do theatre so

that there's now at this time an

emphasis on spectacular theatre on a

large scale

but given those influences I believe

that the theater will always live

theater will always have a place in as

part of our British entertainment scene

Andrew Lee the manager of a wonderful

old London theater the Old Vic well I

still have this ticket

I'll have it I didn't know you were a

rock fan I'm not I'm going to give it to

someone who is Cinderella you will be

able to go to the concert

hey David that's very nice thank you

goodbye goodbye goodbye
